The most common fear students face at school are grades, we are all constantly relying on a simple number to define our overall achievements. Ever since we first entered school there has been only one person allowed to determine our final grade, but shouldn’t others have a say in this decision as well? People who can share different points of view, people such as our peers who we spend most of our time with and know all of our accomplishments. Instead of narrowing it down to only several teachers, students should feel free to give personal feedback on their colleagues’ work.
Over the past two weeks we have been testing out crowd sourcing within our IA class, crowd sourcing consists on being able to give our peers our personal opinion on how well they are doing in class, feeling comfortable on giving them constructive feedback. We see how our colleagues work everyday, we know their strengths and weaknesses pretty well, and it is fair for them to have some type of say when it comes to grading each other. Doing this will later give us, students a wider perspective of what our final grade really is, and what we should do to improve.
Crowd sourcing mainly consists on trust, without trust students wouldn’t be able to open up and share their personal opinions, or have the right amount of confidence to give constructive feedback to others. This is something that needs to be very clear, in order to actually make crowd sourcing function in our IA community. As a community we all need to grow, we all need to empower ourselves to trust one another, not being afraid to share personal thoughts, and doing so will make us succeed, taking a closer into the future.
