This semester has gone by rather quickly. Reaching the end of the school year, my deadlines and after school activities have gradually progressed in my day-to-day routine, causing much difficulty when managing my time. University application are right around the corner and it is our duty to make sure all these requirements our reached appropriately. Knowing that I am one who isn't often exposed to deadlines like these, it becomes more of a challenge when adapting to this lifestyle. Managing my time between Act classes, college essays, internship, kantaya cub, documentary filming and IB assignments I experienced the actual meaning of stress. The pressure these activities and assignments bring can be very overwhelming, which is something I struggled upon these past weeks.
This past week I have been introduced to an overload of occupations, something I wasn’t really accustomed to. The drastic change between having spare free time and no free time at all lead to the catastrophe of not structuring and planning out my day purposefully. The first stressful episode I experienced was missing my ACT class due to lack of organization and efficiency. I accidently scheduled both ACT and college counseling classes at the same time and day. This disastrous scenario was a signal, a signal that portrayed the urgency of organization my life needed. Not being efficient and planning out my day, I completely missed out on a productive and valuable lesson.
Coming to this realization, I knew I had to make a change in my routine.
This recent week was the time to test out my new strategies in hopes of reaching an organized lifestyle. So what exactly did I do differently? The truth is, it only took several steps and adjustments in order to master this goal successfully. I first began by writing down everything I wanted to complete that day on a planner; actually visualizing and stating certain tasks would then allow me to have an idea of my priorities. The next factor I accomplished was taking advantage of any extra free time I had throughout the day. This would then avoid procrastination and replace it with a productive session of different tasks. Another alternative that I used and is crucial when dealing with crammed schedules is speaking to my teachers or mentors. Rearranging and agreeing on feasible dates that would correlate with my weekly routine, allowed me to structure my priorities and dedicate the necessary time for each activity.
We all know what its like to feel disoriented and stressed, but not being able to control your day-to-day routine due to lack of organization can turn out to be a huge disadvantage for our futures. Now overcoming one of my main weaknesses, I am able to see how greatly my life can benefit from these simple acts of productivity.
Organization and efficiency are simple factors, however, it is up to us to actually take action and make smart choices that would influence our future journeys positively.
