GROUP WORK
After having experienced a week in the IA classes I am must say I learned a handful of things and I have much to say about them. The one thing that out-shined from all the things we performed during these classes was the group work. I was extremely fascinated by the structure and organization we had divided our tasks in. When I first began the IA I was expecting Mr. Topf to stand in front of the class and lead the entire group, but instead we immediately divided the class in four sections making it easier to get organized. I must say the way everything was structured was not how I imagined it, each group was assigned a task and we all collaborated sharing ideas and opinions. By following this method of team work we had gathered a significant amount of information for the project in one day.
The task I was assigned was to go around school and interview new students, asking them about how their first day at school was. The goal we were trying to reach was to figure out what makes new students not feel welcome on their first day. After several interviews were able to collect enough information to obtain the main problem, the problem was that the students felt too overwhelmed by everything that surrounded them; big school, friends, grades, city etc. And because of such great team work we were ready to find a solution to the complication many new students had.
