"Who are the right people? "
Reading through the chapter “First Who...Then What” made me take a deeper look at what great companies are made of. The kind of people working in the company is the key to a successful business, employees with great character is what company leaders are looking for. The people working for great companies don’t always need to be experienced or have great skills, but what they do need is a vision to make the business grow.
This can relate to situations we have daily; people always tend to seek for people with brilliance or greater knowledge, but they never give much attention to those with diverse minds, that have a greater chance in fitting in the job. The problem with much companies is that they hire the wrong people that don’t tend to really fit in the job and later end up quitting or getting fired. Another very important concept in finding the right people consists in having level 5 leaders, in order to hire great employees the leaders need to know when and who to hire. The most successful companies take hiring in much consideration, to be able to find the perfect fit for each worker, some leaders recommend not to take action when in doubt, but instead delay the decision making in order to find a suitable position for the candidate.
This chapter has taught me a lot about what there is to know on great companies and has filled me in on every step there is to perform in exchange for a successful business.
