The goal for my personal project is to gain knowledge and skills about fashion designing by remodeling an old dress. The way I had planned to meet this goal was by hiring a seamstress and making several lessons with her in order to get instructions on how to get started. The first two weeks I had about 4 meetings with my seamstress, there I was taught almost everything there is to know about sewing machines and how to apply changes on a dress. Once I got started on the dress it was easy for me to begin making changes, but I always liked to have the seamstress on my side telling me what to do. What I began to notice was the insecurity I had when it came to making the changes on the dress all on my own, I had it very clear that I didn’t have enough confidence in myself.
I didn’t quite understand why I was so afraid of being independent, I knew exactly what to do and I had all the necessary skills, but something kept on pulling me down. Even though I wasn’t very sure I could manage the dress on my own, I decided to the risk, because after all thats what Personal Projects are for. This thursday I canceled my meeting with my seamstress and took the opportunity to finally make some changes on my own, I reviewed some of the several steps I had learned and began to take action. Once I was satisfied with the result of thursday's deadline, I felt proud of myself, I had gained the right amount of confidence in order to trust my personal skills. It is safe for me to say that I have learned how to face my fears and finally begin to take actions for my own good, becoming more independent
is definitely a highlight that occurred throughout the creation of my personal project.
The changes I was able to accomplish this week on my own were to begin tearing apart certain parts of the dress in order to resize the entire piece. Some parts I had to remove were materials such as the zipper and elastics of the dress, which connect most of the clothing together. Once I completed this step, I was able to fully separate the dress apart. I must admit, despite being able to advance on the dress entirely on my own, the true climax of this week was the finding of becoming independent.
