Us students are constantly being reminded about how free we are when learning, how we can take our own knowledge and lead it towards different directions. As the years pass a certain pattern begins to develop, teachers are no longer being liberal they are stocking us with strict projects and assessments that limit our creativity. Constantly being reminded on how things should be done diminishes our ability of thinking for ourselves, actually coming up with our own piece of learning and not needing directions or limitations. The best way for a student to grow knowledge is by them guiding their own learning, allowing them to discover their strengths and weaknesses throughout their academic journey.
Starting off this semester we were introduced to an autonomy project, a project where we are given the privilege to guide and direct an entire unit completely on our own. For this project I have taken the advantage of working in a small group of 3 where I can be constantly busy and actually learn much form the topic. The topic of this autonomy project is human rights and my group members and I have decided to delve into Peruvian freedom, listing various situations where rights have been violated. Many people don’t have much understanding on human right violations and how Peruvian citizens are exposed to injustice everyday, but by creating this project we will raise awareness, in order to make a change in our community.
Doing this project consists on a large amount of research, informing us about the different rights each human has and how they are violated worldwide. Having only 3 group members in this project is extremely beneficial for our learning and experience, we will be having field trips, interviews and editing classes making our final product the best it can be.
