The second styling class was based on facial styling; facial characteristics in styling include hair, makeup, jewelry, sunglasses etc. This session in particular included knowledge in different face shapes and their corresponding characteristics for each. For that week’s assignment I was asked to style 3 different types of face shapes with a specific haircut; round, square and oval.
Another important session I assisted in these classes was the basics in styling. Within a month I was taught various aspects in regards to styling a person’s outfit according to their physical characteristics. One of these assignments included learning about different body shapes; the assignment consisted on styling each body type with their respective accessories.
The Munsell color system is a color space that specifies colors based on three color dimensions: hue, value (lightness), and chroma (color purity). In my design class, I was taught to modify and recreate certain tones by adding dark or light shades into the color chart. This method allows you to identify certain tones within fabrics and textiles in order to illustrate or produce clothing. My assignment for this lesson was to draw a blue shaded munsell chart.
LPS (Escuela de la imagen) is a styling studio founded by a stylist and fashion designer (Javier Rojo and Giselle Elias). I have assisted styling and designing classes in this studio for about 9 months and have been taught the basics of the fashion industry. From color theory, to predicting trends, these classes have given me full insight of what I will be pursuing in the future. The classes take place twice a week for about 2 hours each session; rotating between styling and fashion design, I have been able to get a glimpse of two professions I am truly passionate about.
